Wingate - Alton Haas, 71 of 704 Morgan Street, Crawfordsville, a former Wingate resident died Saturday (Nov 6) in Methodist Hospital at Indianapolis. He had been a patient there a month. He was a retired farmer and State Highway employee. Mr. Haas was a member of Pleasant Hill United Church of Christ at Wingate, past master and member of Wingate Masonic Lodge and member of the former K of P Lodge at Wingate. He was born Feb 4, 1905, a son of Guy and Anna Baldwin Haas. He was first married in 1924 to Elizabeth Minnich, who died in 1966. He was then married to Mary Lith in 1967. She survives. Other survivors are two sons, Darrell of Crawfordsville and Jr. of Wingate, a daughter Alta Jean Essick of North Salem; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Pat Bishop of Wingate and Mrs. Reva Lyon of Linden; a brother, Arnet "Bill" Haas of South Bend; 9 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Thomas Funeral Home, Waynetown with Revs. Homer Hunsinger and Robert Boyd officiating. Burial will bein Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home. Masonic services will be at 8 o'clock tonight. - kbz

WINGATE -- Alton W. Haas, 71, 704 Morgan St., Crawfordsville, died at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Methodist Hospital at Indianapolis. He had been in ill health for several years. A retired farmer and state highway employe, Mr. Haas resided at Wingate until 1973 when he moved to Crawfordsville. He was a member of Pleasant Hill United Church of Christ and past master of Wingate Masonic Lodge and was a member of the former Knights of Columbus. His first marriage was in 1924 to Elizabeth Minnich, she died in 1966. In 1967 he married Mary Lith, and she survives. Also surviving are two sons, Darrell Haas of Crawfordsville and Junior Haas of Wingate; one daughter, Mrs. Jean Essick of North Salem; and two stepdaughters, Mrs. Pat Bishop of Wingate and Mrs. Reva Lyon of Linden. - kbz
